I started world listening day off listening to cardigan town at night with the barn owls hissing. A long recording from a velux roof window onto an edirol r44 with rode ntg-1 mic in blimp. The owls are particularly active about 18-20minutes in!.

Sound of a commercial airplane flying overhead. Comes at the microphone and flies right over the top and then fades away. Plane was about 1,500 feet up on approach for landing about 5 miles from where i was. Recording with rode ntg-3.

Digging into mud: using a shovel to dig into muddy ground, flattening the ground with the shovel. Recorded with a zoom h6 (rode ntg-2). Recorded in a room with good acoustic. It can be used for a scenario where someone is digging a hole, working in the garden.

Owl hooting: you can hear a very distinct owl sound created through foley by lowing air into folded hand. An almost glissando of pitch is present to create a realistic feel. Recorded with the zoom h6, rode ntg. Great for a night-time scene and to fill up atmosphere an ambiences.

Once july hits in the midwest and the temperature and humidity climbs, the insects take over the sound symphony. This mesmerizing sound was recorded on friday july 17th, 2015 at ferne clyffe state park in johnson county illinois. I recorded this using a marantz pmd661 and rode ntg-2 shotgun microphone. .

By mid-september a lot of the migrant songbirds have left southern illinois, along with their songs. But, the insects and their choruses abound. This recording made on september 21st, 2012, in a clearing surrounded by heavy forest. Equipment: zoom h4n recorder and the microphone was the rode ntg-2 shotgun microphone.

Cat eating: here you can hear a cat eating out of a metal bowl. The sound of crunching is evident and also the slush of saliva when swallowing. Recorded with the zoom h6, rode ntg and by using an actual cat. This sound is great to add realism to any soundscape.

Pills being taken out of a metal wrapper: a very distinct metallic sound can be heard. It is sharp and high-pitched. You can hear a pop when the pill is being taking out of it's housing. Great to create tension in a scene. Recorded with the zoom h6, rode ntg.

Rain: the sound was created through foley. It is the very prominent pitter-patter part of rain. It is clear and very sharp. Recorded with the zoom h6, rode ntg in a sound studio. This is useful when you just want the sound of rain droplets unaccompanied by wind or other elements usually associated with rain.

Dusk in the midwest during the summer is usually dominated by insects, but, the wood thrush often sings around dusk, making quite a unique natural soundscape. This wood thrush was recorded on may 26, 2012 at 7:45p. M. Using a rode ntg-2 microphone going into my handy zoom h4n recorder.

Wooden stick: the sound of a wooden stick falling on the floor. It bounces a bit around. Only one stick falling. Recorded with a zoom h6 (rode ntg-2). Recorded in a room with good acoustic. Can be used in the scenario of a drum stick falling down. Or wooded weapon staff.

Paging through a book: here the quick flip of a page can be heard. The air being shoved around can be heard the sharp lifting of a page as well. It consist out of different tempo's to suit the users preferences. Recorded with the zoom h6, rode ntg in a sound studio.

Sanitizing hands: this is a very useful sound effect in the times in which we live. You can hear the bottle spritzing sanitizer and then the substance, vigorously, being squished and rubbed into hands. Recorded with the zoom h6, rode ntg in a recording studio. This is a very specific, subtle sound that will prove useful.

Pouring pellets into a bowl: here cat food is being poured into a metal bowl. You can hear the crackling of the bag, the metallic clatter of pellets hitting the bowl. Different temp’s can be found due to the speed in which the pellets were being poured. Recorded with the zoom h6, rode ntg.

Bird park: here the most prominent sounds are those of birds flying around. You can hear how wind is being pushed around by wings and of course the happy chatter between birds. There are numerous different birds that can be heard that make for an interesting ambience. Recorded with the zoom h6, rode ntg.

Blowing your nose: a very subtle sound but one that stays true to the common flue. You can hear the tissue crinkling when used, the slight sniffles and also the air escaping the man’s nose. This kind of wasp is building individual nests made out of mud. Then they lay an egg inside of each one and brings a reserve of food in it for the future larvae. This is the sound of the female wasp working on its mud coccoon. Recorded on a tascam dr-40 with a rode ntg-1.

Kittens: the screeching of 3 week old kittens is very distinct. Real kittens can be heard here. It is high-pitched and a “close-up” of these sounds coming from these tiny creatures. By overlapping some of the screeching it creates the illusion of more kittens. A slight purr can be heard which comes from the mother. Recorded with the zoom h6, rode ntg.

Purring of cat: this sound is extremely distinct. It is an up-close recording of the vibrations emitted by a cat when they are happy. Rooster cock-a-doodle-dooing: there is no sound like it. A very loud and sharp effect of a rooster doing what it does best. Tying shoelaces: a close-up listen to a very subtle sound when two pieces of string is being tied around each other. You can hear the fumbling of hands swooshing the string around each other and a harder sound of when the knot is being pulled so that it doesn't come loose. Thunder storm: this is a very accurate and realistic thunder storm. The great clashes of thunder can be heard accompanied buy the rumbling of the storm. Wind blowing and swooshing paints a beautiful picture. The sharp lightning strikes are very prominent. Recorded with the zoom h6, rode ntg. This is a great ambience to create the basis of an amazing soundscape.

Recorded on marantz pmd661 with rode ntg-2. Sound of builders taking down scaffolding in a large echoey space. Sporadic clanging and banging sounds throughout and occasional muffled voices (with cockney accents). Good ambient sound for builders working in a cathedral, empty art gallery or some other large, open space.

Acc being thrown in water: this is a multi-purpose sound. Created by throwing an acc tablet into water, clear bubbles can be heard. A strong fizzing sound is very prominent.
